This is a summary of a couple real estate scams that recently occurred by or to women from Oak Lawn.  I’m fascinated by how these women actually thought they could get away with this stuff!

I actually posted about Kathleen Dangman, a current Oak Lawn resident that wanted to live in Mokena so badly that she actually scammed two people by concocting some kind of purchase agreement and using fraudulent money orders.  She was obviously so convincing that two different sellers allowed her to reside in their homes until they were forced to evict her and file charges.  In fact, she tried it again after being arrested the first time!

The last bit of news I read was that she was fighting to reduce her bail but her latest victim was fighting to keep her in jail.  I’d love to hear the final news on this one.  You can read about it at Oak Lawn Woman Scams Mokena Home Sellers.

Now there is a new story.  A Chicago woman named Migdalia Norris, 50 years old, befriended an elderly Oak Lawn woman, 84 years, at her church.  The Chicago woman somehow convinced the elderly Oak Lawn resident that she should move in with her in her Oak Lawn condominium.

The elderly lady obviously had family members looking after her because one of her relatives called the police when she found Ms. Norris living in the condo.  I mean, what did this woman think?  Was she hoping no one cared or checked up on this lady?  I guess it happens, but I just don’t understand taking such a risk.

I guess in desperate times people do crazy things.  They take what they want and just hope they don’t get caught.  I’m still amazed at Dangman’s ruse.  She had to know this wasn’t going to work out.  She knew she’d get caught (as she already did by someone prior to trying it again).  I guess it’s difficult to accept that such crazy stories can occur in our area.
