One of my favorite little dining spots in Oak Lawn is Millie’s restaurant located at 5172 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn IL 60453. The phone number is 708-423-9293.
Millie’s is a cute and quaint “parlor” that tries to bring you back in time with the wrought iron and wood dining tables, tin ceiling, snack bar and old time decor. It brings back memories of the drug store with a snack area my Mom and I used to visit when we lived in Blue Island.
Most visitors choose the nice wooden booths to sit in. Service is slow and on the visit I had today with my granddaughter, Elle, it was interesting to see how long it took to serve people that came in from their lunch break at work. I guess they’re used to the wait.
Each time I’ve been there you are taken care of by one of two waitresses on duty. We asked the older woman if she was Millie but she isn’t. If I can remember from my first visit, there is a photo of Millie on the snack bar.
There is a selection of soup, chili and sandwiches and Elle said the peanut butter on her P&B sandwich was better than what we have at home (which prompted me to stop by Freshline Foods to buy different peanut butter). I was there during lunch time (around noon) and they had already run out of one of their soups. I was wondering if they’d make another batch or not.
Every sandwich I’ve had has been delicious and fresh. They also offer a selection of ice creams to eat there or take-out. My mouth waters every time I see one of their milkshakes. I’m always jealous that people can drink those and not gain weight. I guess they don’t do it every day, or maybe that’s their only guilty pleasure.
I believe you can get most anything to take-out and I heard the phone ring a lot during our stay and saw a couple people walk in to get their take-out order. Although I believe their hours might be extended during the spring and summer seasons, their regular hours are Monday-Thursday from 11:00-8:00 (might be 9:00 now) and Friday-Saturday from 11:00-9:00 (might be 10:00). Looks like they’re closed on Sunday but I’ll have to double check and possibly edit this.
